By nerfing its action characters, the game essentially sabotaged itself, which heavily explains why a lot of people don't like it.Īs an action blockbuster, it has so many marvellous setpieces and story elements to keep you interested, but the game HOUNDS on your patience. I was very, very frustrated in the early parts of the game and was close to ragequitting because of how weak of damage I was doing.

And once you upgrade the appropriate Skills to their fullest, the game becomes a lot better, preparing you for the legions of enemies and bosses you are often forced to fight (which btw, melee is useless against bosses so good luck if you run out of ammo).īut first impressions count for everything, and because the game severely weakens you at the very start of the game building up to become the badass you are from RE4 or RE5 is a goddamn SLOG. On its own, the game has enough content to keep you busy, and a great story to unravel and follow along 4 campaigns that often intertwine with each other. In brief, the Skill system was just not needed. But whereas in those games it was tense and satisfying to find more ammo, here it's just plain irritating to run low on ammo or take damage because the game's incentifising on Skill Points negatively affects its design. In this regard, it might seem like its benefiting the horror aspect of the game by leaving you scrounging for health and ammo in order to stay alive like in other Resi games. And it certainly doesn't help that the majority of supplies you find in crates are Skill Points, which add to your revenue to buy or upgrade more SKills, but the necessary things needed to advance in the game ammo and health, are in much shorter supply now. Even against zombie,s you can very easily die. They have a whole gambit of moves, but it is still incredibly easy to die thanks to how pathetically weak your strength and defense is. See, in order to make Skills seem more of a necessity in this game, the developers essentially nerfed your base characters, making them weak dealing damage and take way more damage when attacked. However, where the game falls is its implementation of the Skill system. For example, you can now change your gun aiming from a reticule to a laser, and you can even change the colour of the laser to absurd colours like yellow or purple. It's also worth noting that the game has a lot of small features that may seem trivial, but nonetheless I feel privileged to be able to edit. These skills are universal to every character you play with, and in the game's defense, there is a lot to do in the 4 long story campaigns and to play with with 7 playable characters, and micromanaging is kept streamlined between them, which is very much appreciated. Guns are now merely collectables to be found in the levels, along with Serpent Medals, but beyond that, the game's method of character progression is by having skills and abilities that increase the character's stats or moves depending on which skills you attach. Instead of upgrading guns like in RE4 or RE5, you can now upgrade yourself. Largely due to the game's unique idea of a Skill system. And while it does do the latter, it still manages to frustrate more than entertain.

But I wouldn't have minded that if its action was better focused on and had more iconic setpieces. But even then, I didn't feel like I got the experience I was hoping for.

Personally, as someone who enjoys this series more so for its action than its horror elements, I felt like I should've had a blast when playing Resident Evil 6. By their genre, Resident Evil is a horror franchise as well as action, so to lose all those frightening elements in favour of upping the ante of action does make this game look poorly made on the surface. Resident Evil 6 was ostracised by fans and critics alike for not having the feeling of dread or horror that is present in most other Resident Evil titles.
